Does floss that is stuck damage your teeth or braces?

stegy1 asked:

I just got my braces, and the floss keeps getting stuck on the brackets of my braces. I tried to get it out, and I think that I got most of it out, but if there are still pieces of floss stuck on the brackets, could that damage your teeth or braces? Thanks!

    JUST TELL YOUR ORTHODONTIST.
he or she should give you some hook looking things that you tie the floss to and you run it through your wires and it doesnt get stuck.

    Create a video blog…instantly.

Floss can catch and shred on the brackets and wires, sometimes due to a sharp point not bent close enough to the bracket
Ask the doctor on what kind they recommend.
You can use several items to help.
Floss threaders – They come in a white paper pack with blue writing about the size of a coin envelope. The threader looks like it is made of thick blue fishing line with a big eye on one end.
These are great for tight spots.
The trick to not driving yourself crazy using it is to do a single tie near one end of the floss to the eye of the threader, then you only have to thread it once.
There are some very small brushes looking somewhat like the large cone shaped brush you may have seen for washing glasses and bottles.
The smallest ones are by oral-b and are light green on the handle. these are great for getting in by brackets .
Super floss is a bulky fuzzy floss that can work on braces, but hard to get in tight spaces.
Ask the doctor for any samples of items they may have and than to show you how to use them
If you are not all ready, use an electric toothbrush.
Oral b makes a rechargeable one for under 20.00.
It will help you get in the spaces better with less effort and can often remove the fuzz left by the floss.
